Writing for Pleasure, Performance and Publication

Alloa Writers has been running in its current form since 1998
The group welcomes all kinds of writing and has song writers and published authors in its membership. There is no restriction on the type of work tackled, eg short stories, poems, novels, plays, film & tv scripts.

Work written by members of Alloa Writers has been published in many outlets including literary magazines, poetry magazines, through publishing houses, the internet, newspapers, and Clackmannanshire’s library publications. Work has been performed locally, and further afield in Glasgow, Callander & Stirling poetry venues, pantomime in Stirling, and at readings hosted by other groups.
Aims of the group
"To advance the education of the public generally, and in the Alloa area in particular, in the art of creative writing and to encourage public interest in all forms of writing and in literature generally."
  • Members of Alloa Writers - as readers and writers - support one another by offering feedback on work brought to meetings, to encourage each member to develop their skills.
  • New members are always welcome, and can join the group by coming along to a Wednesday night meeting. There is an annual membership fee - currently £5.
  • Members pay £3.00 towards group funds at each meeting (with the option of  a complimentary tea or coffee).
Writing words, in forms fantastic, curdling emotions, rhymes elastic, light pitched dark and drastic; dull? never, in this company of wordsmiths. COME - JOIN IN
